Crossing Series 2009-2017
Crossing Series explores the process of additive and subtractive lithography printing and short animation to depict altered topography and ambiguous architecture. This series indirectly reflects on recent demographic and environmental shifts in the country of my birth Yugoslavia, present day Bosnia and Herzegovina. The visual vocabulary in this series of singular images, once applied to the animation, takes on the crude, almost ungainly appearance of early black and white cinema, complete with simple gestures and didactic narratives. Simple depictions and animated transitions from image to image, such as an iceberg gradually morphing into a cloud, create a familiar, yet unsettling experience. This hybrid blend of drawing, printmaking, and animation creates an amalgam of possibilities, in which the unfamiliar becomes almost tactile, while the familiar (rocks, clouds, water) provides a handhold on reality.
