Field
Field is an ongoing series exploring how landscapes—both physical and psychological—shape memory, narrative, and identity. Conceived in 2023 and initiated through residencies with Artica Svalbard, Arctic Circle, and Spitsbergen Artists Center in Longyearbyen, the project grew out of encounters with the Arctic landscape as a place of extraordinary beauty, profound environmental change, and contested histories.
Developed through extended periods of working and traveling across the Svalbard and Jan Mayen archipelago, Field continues my investigation into place, remembrance, and transformation. Building on the visual language of my earlier series Majestic and Crossing, these intricately hand-carved woodcuts bring together observations of the landscape with fragments of experience, memory, and imagination. The resulting images move between the specific and the elusive, connecting distant geographies and lived experiences while reflecting on the fragile, continually changing relationship between land, memory, and belonging.
